Sparkle Bath Mitt ~ A Free Crochet Pattern

I’ve always wanted to try scrubby type yarns but I’m not one to be overly excited to make kitchen scrubbers. I’d much rather be making myself a garment or accessory. So when I ordered this yarn, I really had no plans on what free pattern it would become. Once I received it though, I knew I needed to a free bath mitt crochet pattern. I’m one that loves to exfoliate, and the more rough material, the better. My husband calls my old exfoliating cloth, the Tattoo Remover, it was that scratchy. Now, don’t get nervous, Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle Yarn is not as rough as I make it sound. But it is perfect for a exfoliating bath mitt!

I wanted a simple design that was quick and easy to work up! And I love crocheted pieces that I personally use. I’m a rather selfish crocheter. But this bath mitt is also perfect for gifts, gift baskets, and craft shows! Now to the fun part… the free bath mitt crochet pattern!

Cuff

Ch 9

You will now be working in Rows. Work all slip stitches very loosely.

R1: Starting in 2nd ch, slst in next 8 chs, slst in next 2 sts on last Round of Mitten (counts as turning ch here and throughout) – 8 sts

R2: Turn, slst in FLO of next 8 slsts

R3: Ch 1, turn, slst in FLO of next 8 slsts, slst in next 2 sts on last Round of Mitten

Repeat Row 2 and 3 around to end. When complete, flip half of mitten inside out. This makes the next part easier. Match right sides together of first row and last row of cuff (see picture below). Slst in FLO of last row worked and corresponding chain from first Row. Repeat with remaining back loops and chains. Finish off and weave in ends. Flip right side out.

Thumb

Attach yarn to right most chain from Round 6.

R1: Ch 1, sc in same and next 11 chs, sc in side of next sc, sc in 8 skipped sc from Round 6, sc in side of next sc, join – 20 sts

R2: Ch 1, sc in same and next, sc2tog, *sc next 2, sc2tog, repeat * around, join – 15 sts

R3-10: Ch 1, sc in same and each st around, join – 15 sts

R11: Ch 1, sc in same, sc2tog in each st around, join – 8 sts

R12: Ch 1, starting in same sc2tog, sc2tog around, join 4 sts

Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through 4 sts from Round 12 of Thumb and pull tight. Secure and weave in ends.

Check the feel of the inside versus the outside. If you prefer the feel on the inside with the amount of texture, flip wrong side out for use.

  1. Hi Can’t wait to give this pattern and yarn a try, but I just need to ask before I zip over to Amazon: how many skeins does this take? It says “4 medium” next to the materials, so I didn’t know if that was how many skeins it takes. That would be 12 ounces of yarn and that seemed like a lot to me. Thanks!
